ORLANDO, FL – Valencia College has been approved by the U.S. Department of State to accept Exchange Visitors on a J visa. The program enables foreign students, professors, short-term scholars, and others who are already studying or working at an educational institution abroad to gain field experience which complements their academic studies or career.
The Exchange Visitor Program seeks to broaden mutual understanding between U.S. citizens and foreign-born citizens through educational and cultural exchange. In addition, J exchange programs provide participants with a valuable opportunity to learn the language, culture and educational system of a foreign country, thereby developing lasting and meaningful relationships.
Student visitors to Valencia can earn a two-year Associate in Arts (A.A.) or Associate in Science (A.S.) degree, or they can come for short-term academic training field experience. In the academic training program, students can enroll in a six-month certificate course and be placed with a local employer in a position that relates to their major area of study. The program is designed to help students apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to a real-world environment.
For additional information about the program, please contact Lisa Eli, Director, Continuing and International Education, at 407-582-6649 or leli@valenciacollege.edu or visit valenciacollege.edu/international.
Employers who are interested in providing field experiences for foreign exchange students can contact Valencia’s Internship and Workforce Services office at 407-582-3220.

Orlando, FL — Valencia College has added a new site to its list of conference and meeting venues — a 17,000-square-foot, lakefront Special Events Center—located on the college´s West Campus on South Kirkman Road.
The $6.8 million Special Events Center has a large, open space for conferences, meetings and community events, which can seat 320 people for formal banquets or 400 people theater-style.
There will be a public ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the building on March 31 at 4:30 p.m., followed by a reception and tours until 7:30 p.m.
Designed by Hunton Brady Architects and built by Welbro Building Corporation, the new space also includes a studio for Valencia´s architecture program and a commercial-sized instructional kitchen for its culinary program.
It is also a LEED-certified green building for its environmentally friendly characteristics. LEED certification recognizes building performance in five key areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
The new meeting space is available to the public for booking through Valencia Enterprises, a division of Valencia College. Their services encompass four areas: Meeting Services & Technology Labs, Corporate Training & Consulting, Continuing Education & Professional Skills, and Language & Culture.
