Topic:  Online Teacher Training With Real-Life Scenarios Made Available Through New NISOD/Valencia Enterprises Partnership

Orlando, FL – A recently announced partnership between the National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development (NISOD) and Valencia Enterprises will open up new professional development opportunities for higher education faculty, staff and administrators.

NISOD is affiliated with the Community College Leadership Program at The University of Texas at Austin, a doctoral-level program training community college presidents, vice presidents, and deans for 60 years. The new partnership with Valencia Enterprises, a division of Valencia Community College, is seen as a way for NISOD to offer professional development to faculty, staff and mid-level administrators that is based on collaborative theories that seek to improve student learning through case studies and problem-based learning.

Dr. Evelyn Waiwaiole, NISOD director, believes that "this is a great resource for colleges, specifically NISOD-member colleges. With faculty being tasked with engaging more students, assessing learning, and monitoring student success, faculty need new tools and resources to help them succeed. Learning Scenarios is the right tool—at the right time.”

The web-based “Learning Scenarios” offerings have been popular with community colleges, private and for-profit institutions across North America for four years. As a result of the new partnership, NISOD members can take advantage of reduced pricing on the courses for their institutions. Learning Scenarios courses are designed in a web-based, asynchronous format, and are instructor-facilitated to maximize the learning experience. Courses take from two to six weeks to complete.

Currently, more than 700 community colleges around the world are NISOD members, including almost every large community college district, the majority of urban and technical colleges in the United States and Canada, and more than 200 small, rural colleges around the world. Since 1978, NISOD has been dedicated to the professional development of faculty, administrators and staff, and to the continued improvement of teaching and learning, with the ultimate goal of student success. .
